You don't have to become a medical expert, but you do have to be your own advocate.
Let me be honest: this isn't just about you -- it's about me too.
I'm in my early 50s, and most of the time, I still feel young. I still think I've got time. I tell myself, "I'm good. Nothing serious is going on." But that way of thinking is exactly why a lot of us fall behind when it comes to taking care of ourselves.
We don't ask enough questions.
We don't stay informed. We assume we're fine -- until we're not.
That's why I'm writing this -- as a reminder to myself and to any man reading this who thinks he's still got time.
The truth is, your doctor might not tell you everything unless you ask. Not because they don't care -- but because they're working with limited time.
The more curious and engaged you are, the more they can help you make informed decisions.
So next time I walk into that office, I'm bringing my questions.
Because this isn't about fear -- it's about responsibility.
I owe that to myself.
And maybe you do too.
