October 21 β€” It's Back to the Future Day! (And I Just Found Out)

Every once in a while you hear something on the radio that makes you stop, smile, and go: Wait... what? That was me on the morning of October 21, 2025, when the radio host said, "Today, October 21st, is Back to the Future Day."

Hold up. You mean to tell me there's an actual day dedicated to Marty McFly and Doc Brown?
Apparently so -- and somehow, I found out on that day.

I grew up on Back to the Future. For me, it wasn't just a movie -- it was a mind-blowing trip through time, wrapped in rock 'n' roll, science, and that wild DeLorean.

I was that kid who loved watching Beyond 2000 on the Discovery Channel, so you can imagine how much I loved technology, science fiction, and futuristic movies -- flying cars, robots, crazy inventions -- anything that made you dream about what the world could look like one day.

Seeing a teenager and a mad scientist actually mess with time itself? That was everything.

So what exactly is Back to the Future Day?

It's an unofficial fan holiday celebrated every year on October 21st -- the exact date Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) traveled to in Back to the Future Part II.
In the movie, they left 1985 and landed in the "future"... which, at the time, was October 21, 2015.

Fans have since adopted that date as Back to the Future Day -- a fun, nostalgic celebration for anyone who still dreams about hoverboards, self-lacing sneakers, or a time-traveling DeLorean hitting 88 mph.

How Back to the Future fans celebrate

There's no government proclamation or parade (not yet anyway), but fans around the world mark the day by:

Watching all three Back to the Future movies back-to-back

  • Sharing memes, quotes, and DeLorean photos online
  • Dressing up as Marty or Doc (bonus points for the red vest)
  • Hosting themed parties with "Flux Capacitor" decorations and Pepsi Perfect bottles

In 2015 -- the year Marty actually visited in the film -- cities around the world threw huge celebrations. Even Universal Pictures released special anniversary editions, and companies tried to make some of those futuristic gadgets a reality.

I Grew Up Watching The Jetsons -- Now I'm Living Their Future

Just like in Back to the Future, I grew up watching the Jetsons and can you believe how much of this stuff exist in our everyday lives today?

Why I love this

What I find cool about Back to the Future Day isn't just the nostalgia -- it's the reminder of how powerful imagination is.
The movie made us dream about what the future could look like... and, in many ways, it inspired a generation of inventors, engineers, and storytellers to actually build it.

So yeah, today I'm officially celebrating my first Back to the Future Day -- years late, but right on time.
