Drum Corps International (DCI) in Indianapolis - A Hidden Treasure Worth Sharing

On Friday August 8th 2025, I was chatting with a parent whose child is performing in the Drum Corps International (DCI) championship finals at Lucas Stadium in Indianapolis. After I told her about my blog and the types of stories I write, she made a simple request: "If you're not too busy, would you mind writing something about DCI?"

She explained that not many people know what Drum Corps International even is--unless you're a parent or a student who's involved in it. And honestly, that hit me. She's right. Outside of the marching band world, DCI often flies under the radar.

As of the writing of this article, The DCI World Championship Finals are set for Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis. The event runs from 6:30 PM to approximately 11:30 PM ET .

If you've never heard of it, you're not alone. I'm learning about it right along with you, and what I've come to realize is that Drum Corps International (DCI) is like the Olympics for marching music.

Every summer, talented young musicians from across the country, across the world actually, train, travel, and compete for a chance to perform at the highest level.

It's more than just music--it's discipline, precision, teamwork, and passion all rolled into one unforgettable experience.

You might remember an earlier post I wrote about an older lady I met--the one I asked, "Why do older people wear funny clothes?" Well, believe it or not, she and her son Andrew were in town for the DCI finals. Andrew is a teacher, and some of his students were performing in the event. That's what brought them to Indianapolis.
