Meet Trent the Cook, and the Case of My Missing Website Link
So yes, I'll be fixing that ASAP.
In the meantime, Trent, if you're reading this -- here's the link to my tutorial: web-sites-for-dummies.com
(And this time, it's staying on the homepage -- even on mobile!)
How Did This All Start?
So, how did Trent and I get into this conversation in the first place?
Trent's a cook -- has been for 19 years -- and you can tell he loves what he does. He mentioned having a Facebook page and being active on Instagram. Naturally, I asked him, "Do you have a website?"
He said no. That's when I started sharing why I believe every passionate creator or expert -- especially someone like Trent -- needs a website.
Why You Need a Website (Even If You're Already on Social Media)
Here's the thing:
Having a Facebook page or an Instagram profile is great.
But those are rented spaces -- you don't control the platform, the layout, or the rules.
- A website is your home on the internet.
- It's one place where:
- You tell your story, your way.
- You share your blog, recipes, or ideas.
- You link all your social platforms in one spot.
- You build a brand around your name or your craft.
For example:
- Got a beautiful food photo on Instagram? Embed it on your site with the full recipe or backstory.
- Uploaded a cooking video to YouTube? Add it to a blog post on your site with step-by-step instructions.
- Posted something personal on Facebook? Reuse that post on your blog and expand on it.
In the end, your website becomes the hub -- while social media becomes the outlets.
Instead of saying "find me on Facebook," you just say:
TrentTheCook.com
...and let that page guide them to everything else.
The Lesson (And the Thank You)
So thank you, Trent.
Thank you for reminding me that my tutorial wasn't accessible on mobile.
And thank you for inspiring this article.
I hope it encourages you -- and others reading -- to build a simple but powerful website that shares who you are and what you love.
Start with your name.
Add your story.
And build from there.
