From Bad to Worse: How Grocery Prices Keep Climbing

Grocery bills are driving Americans nuts these days. Have you noticed how expensive it is go buy groceries when you go to the supermarket these days? Americans are fed up with their grocery bills.

Update: August 2025 The other day I bought a loaf of bread at Walmart for a dollar I just realized now it's $1.47. That's almost... Well it is 50% increase.

Everything has gone up lately. The price for rent, goods and services in general have gone up a lot but the most noticeable price hikes are for groceries.

When I wrote this back in 2021, the Associated Press reported that U.S. consumer prices soared nearly 6.2% The year before. This was the most it has gone up since 1990.

Well we are now at the end of 2025 and what do you think happened? It's gone up even more!

About four years ago, a Bank of America survey of over 1,000 Americans found that nearly 600 noticed the most dramatic price increases at grocery stores. Of all the goods and services that have experienced inflation this year, people have noticed price hikes for groceries the most.

I wonder what this survey would say now!

This data was collected four years ago. And since then, things have only gotten worse.

At the time, restaurants, bars, and eating out came in second by a wide margin, with just about 200 Americans feeling the pinch there. Takeout and food delivery followed next, with about 175 respondents noticing the price hikes.

But one thing hasn't changed: Americans' pockets are hurting the most when it comes to food. Groceries are an everyday necessity, so it's no surprise that rising prices at the supermarket--like the cost of milk or eggs--still hit the hardest.
